Personal lubricants come in a variety of types - we've tried to cover them all below to help in making a decision about the right lubricant for you.
As the name suggests water-based lubricants are as they would seem - made using water as a major component. Water-based and water-soluble lubricants are by far the most popular types of personal lubricants that we sell. This could be because the compounds used in them are all liquid water-based and make the clean-up easy as there is no residue. If the lubricant comes into contact with clothes, sheets and anything else, it will wash away easily, and without staining.
Silicone lubricants have their place, especially now that some are manufactured without the ingredients that break down the surface of silicone toys, and some can be used with Latex condoms.
Silicone lubricants are known for their longevity, their thick viscosity, and ability to last through intense sexual encounters. As you might guess, this lends itself to anal intercourse. Unlike the vagina, the anus does not produce it's own lubrication, and thus, a long lasting, and very slippery lubricant is required - silicone lubricant is the one of choice, for anal sex. Check before you buy if you use condoms or are susceptible to allergic reactions.
You might have guessed it - a very smart scientist one day decided that the ultimate personal lubricant was a combination of both water-based and silicone based. The benefits of both silicone (long lasting) and water-based (hypo-allergenic, stainless) could be combined to make a very compelling lubricant choice. Hybrid lubricants typically harness, in differing scales, the benefits of both silicone and water-based lubricants.
Typically made from a water-based lubricant, with a flavour compound added to the lubricant. The most common flavours are strawberry, banana, and passionfruit. Sometimes, the odd chocolate or coffee flavoured lubricant comes along, but they are often short lived. Another flavoured sub-category, are the heating and cooling flavours - both often mint based in their nature, they do taste quite nice.
