There's a lubricant for everyone
With so many different “lubes” on the market, choosing a lubricant can be a confusing process. The right lube can help solve any issues that you may have with vaginal dryness while making sex more comfortable and reducing the pain that can occur when having anal sex. Lubricant can also enhance and intensify the sensations that you feel during sex, whether you are pleasuring yourself or having sex with a partner. Lube can also make sex last longer, and make sex a bit safer since it reduces the chances of condom breaking or in the skin becoming cut or receiving any abrasions during sex. Many people see lubricant as a must-have when using sex toys.
Types of Lubricants
There are two basic types of personal lubricants to choose from, although there are thousands of different brands on the market. These two types are water-based lubricant and silicone-based lubricant. There are also oil-based lubes out there, although those are not recommended for use with condoms or with adult toys, since they can erode the integrity of both. There are some differences between water-based lubes and silicone-based lubes. Water-based lubes are usually cheaper than silicone, and they are less likely to stain fabrics, including your sheets, couch, mattress, and so on. Water-based lubes can be found in warming varieties and in flavored variations. Silicone lubes, by contrast, require no soap or water to remove, and they never evaporate or dry up, since they don’t contain water. Silicone lubes are a bit pricier than water-based lubes, but a “little bit” goes a long way, or at least longer than the same amount of lube in a water-based formulation.
Finding the Best Lube
When choosing a lubricant, there are some questions that you need to answer in order to make the right choice. For example, if you are looking for a lube that will not stand your brand new bed linens, then water-based lube is the way to go. If you want lube that you can use in the hot tub, then silicone is a better option. The best lube for your needs, whether water-based or silicone-based, may depend on consistency, or thickness. A thicker lube is usually recommended for use with adult toys, since the lube will not slide off the plaything as quickly. For anal penetration, thicker lubes are also recommended, and some users report that a thicker lube gives a cushioned feeling in the anus. There are also anal lubricants that are made for de-sensitising the anal area, which some folks recommend because this type of lube can make anal sex more enjoyable. Because silicone-based lube lasts longer, it is usually a better choice than water-based lubes for anal sex. For vaginal sex, personal preference should be your guide, although it is recommended that women who are prone to yeast infection should choose a lube that is free from glycerin, which is an ingredient in most (but not all) water-based lubes. Regardless of use, if your skin is sensitive, then avoid flavored or warming lubes. Some people find that they are actually sensitive to preservatives known as parabens that are found in water-based lubricants. In this instance, you can still use water-based lubricant, just be sure to look for a formula that is free of parabens.
Toy Type and Lubricant Type
Many times, the toy that you are using will dictate which type of lubricant you will need to use. For example, if you are using a silicone toy, then you cannot use silicone-based lubricant. If you do, the toy’s surface will become squishy and soft, virtually destroying the toy. Pay special attention to the instructions that come with your adult toy so that you use the right lube for that particular toy.
